I played in a band called Tellurian with Richie when i was about 17, then he set up Dungeon Studio and i'd go record at his place, then i worked at the studio with Richie. He taught me so much about recording & listening. Some fantastic acts came through the studio including Ride, Radiohead & Supergrass, and not always acts that came in to record. I remember Sinéad O'Connor coming in for a week and sitting next to me all day writing lyrics for her second album. Her husband & drummer John Reynolds was in recording tracks with an Oxford singer/guitarist. later in the 00's Richie & I worked together again on some of my RAH tracks.
Richie was a really lovely guy, had a wicked sense of humor and his ears were always alert. Anyone reading this and who knew him will know just what i mean. Much missed but never forgotten.

Rich was a genius imo, on the guitar and behind the desk. This video by Tim Turan captures the man at work at Dungeon Studios in Ascott. I learnt most of what I know about recording techniques from Richie.
"Could you just play that passage again for me Bush?", was his way of getting me to do a better take.
I also recall when Dave Smith and I bought some tape off Rich to use on a 16 track machine for an album we were doing. He said he'd leave the tape out for us, but we picked up the wrong one and wiped some poor bands album. Luckily Rich had mixed it down already. I am sure folks have many more memories of good time with Rich they'd like to share.
